Who do we collect personal data from and how do we use your information?
If you provide us with any personal information while using this website, we may use it to provide you with any information or services you have requested. We may also use it for any other purpose for which you give your consent. For example, we may send you additional information about the firm or its services, if you have consented to us doing so.
We will collect personal data about clients, potential clients and other individuals who may work for clients or potential clients or be otherwise involved in matters we work on, as part of our onboarding process.
We will use the information provided by you, and if relevant your employees and your agents, primarily for the provision of legal services to you and for related purposes including:
- Onboarding clients and updating and enhancing client records;
- Undertaking analysis to help manage our practice;
- Statutory returns; and
- Legal and regulatory compliance.
We may also collect personal data about suppliers and other individuals that we work with.
How and why will we share your personal data?
Our work for clients may require us to pass on information to third parties such as expert witnesses and other professional advisers including advisers appointed by another party to your matter. We may also give such information to others who perform services for us, such as typing and photocopying services. Our practice may be audited or checked by our accountants or our regulator, or by other organisations.
We do not normally copy personal information to anyone outside the European Economic Area, however we may do so when the particular circumstances of a matter so require. All such third parties are required to maintain confidentiality in relation to client information and are only permitted to process personal data for the lawful purpose for which it has been shared and in accordance with our instructions.
How long will we retain your information?
We will keep your personal details for as long as is necessary for the reasons we are using them for. How long, varies depending on our relationship with you, and any legal obligations which may dictate the length of time your personal information is kept.
We use the following criteria to establish retention periods, and then securely dispose of personal information when no longer required.
- A legal or statutory obligation to keep information for a minimum period of time.
- Industry specific guidelines and good practice.
- An assessment of our business necessity to keep personal details, balanced with people’s reasonable expectations.
- Whether retention is advisable in a legal context (for example for litigation purposes or regulatory investigations).
As a general rule, we will keep all records related to client matters for a minimum of six years. The law may oblige us to retain certain records for a longer or shorter periods. Your privacy rights
Under UK data protection law you have a number of privacy rights. These are listed below, along with our contact details, should you wish to make a request.
- Right to be Informed: You have the right to be informed about how we handle your personal information. This privacy notice is one of the ways we endeavour to fulfil this right.
- Right of Access: You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you and the purposes we are using it for. Personal data is any information which can directly, or indirectly, identify you.
- Right to Rectification: You have the right to ask us to change any details which are incorrect or need updating. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.
- Right of Erasure: You have the right to ask us to delete your personal details. Please note this not an absolute right, and there may be circumstances in which we can justifiably decline a request in part, or in full.
- Right to Object: You have the absolute right to object to receiving direct marketing from us and the right to object to us using information we know about you to personalise our communications. You also have the right to raise an objection about how we are handling your personal information in certain circumstances.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: Where you have provided your consent for us to use your personal data for a specific purpose or purposes, you can withdraw this consent at any time. The lawfulness of our use of your information before consent was withdrawn is not affected.
- Right of Restriction: This means you can ask us to suspend the processing of personal information about you, in certain circumstances, for example if you want us to establish its accuracy, or the reason we are using it for.
- Right to Portability: You have the right to obtain and reuse your personal information across different services, in certain circumstances. This right allows you to request that we move, copy or transfer your personal information easily from our systems to another organisation’s systems, or directly to you.
UK data protection law also gives people rights in relation to automated decision making which may have a legal or similarly significant effect. We can confirm that we do not carry out this type of activity.
Please remember if you use a link to go from our website to another website, or you request a service from another organisation, this privacy notice will no longer apply once you have left our website
How to exercise your rights
Please use the following contact details if you would like to exercise any of the above rights. You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. However, to fulfil certain requests and depending on our relationship with you, we may need to ask you for proof of identity.

We’ll handle any requests as soon as possible, at least within one calendar month. In limited circumstances we may need to extend the timescale to respond where requests are particularly complex.
Our obligations to fulfil the above rights may also be subject to certain exemptions.
