Bellevue Law Invests in Trauma-Aware Practice to Better Support Clients

At Bellevue Law, we recognise that when clients seek legal advice, they are often navigating one of the most challenging periods of their professional or personal lives.

Whether it is a workplace dispute, a grievance, an investigation, a dismissal, or a commercial conflict, legal issues rarely exist in isolation. Behind every matter is a person facing uncertainty, stress, and often significant personal or professional consequences.

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional client care, the entire Bellevue Law team recently took part in a dedicated trauma-awareness training day led by Lou Lebentz and Melanie Curtis.

The training explored how trauma and stress can affect behaviour, communication, memory and decision-making, and how professionals can respond in ways that help clients feel heard, supported and able to engage effectively in the legal process.

The session encouraged us to look beyond behaviours that can sometimes be labelled as “difficult”, “demanding” or “disengaged” and instead consider the experiences that may be driving them. It also highlighted the importance of clear communication, consistency, empathy and professional boundaries when supporting people through difficult circumstances.

For Bellevue Law’s lawyers, this learning is directly relevant to the work we do every day. We advise employers, employees, senior executives, business leaders and organisations on complex workplace and commercial issues, often at times of significant pressure or uncertainty.

Founder and Principal Florence Brocklesby commented:

“We are seeing increasing levels of stress, trauma and mental health challenges both in the workplace and across society more broadly. Understanding how these experiences can affect the people we work with is fundamental to providing the best possible support and advice. The training provided valuable insights that many of our team are already applying in their day-to-day work with clients.”

While the legal advice we provide remains rooted in expertise and commercial judgement, we believe that understanding the human impact of legal issues helps us build stronger relationships and deliver a better client experience.

Investing in trauma-aware practice reflects Bellevue Law’s wider commitment to a people-first approach. By continually developing our understanding of the challenges our clients may be facing, we can provide legal support that is not only expert and pragmatic, but also thoughtful, responsive and compassionate.

We would like to thank Lou Lebentz and Melanie Curtis for delivering such an insightful and engaging day, and our team for embracing the opportunity to deepen their understanding and strengthen the support they provide to clients.
