We are delighted that both Legal Futures and Edward Fennell’s Legal Diary have featured Bellevue Law’s Sustainable and Responsible Legal Advice Pledge, recognising our commitment to aligning our legal work with our social and environmental values.

As a certified B Corp, we are dedicated not only to providing exceptional legal advice but also to considering the wider impact of the matters we take on. Our Pledge makes clear that we will not act for corporate clients operating in sectors defined by B Lab as controversial or ineligible, including fossil fuel production, gambling, weapons and defence, tobacco, and prisons.

While each of these sectors may raise different considerations, our intention is to be transparent about the work we do and the clients we act for. As our founder, Florence Brocklesby, noted in the Legal Diary:

“We will always provide high-quality legal advice and act in clients’ best interests and in accordance with their instructions. However, we will also consider how clients might increase their positive social or environmental impact and reduce negative effects. Sustainable and responsible practices often align with clients’ long-term commercial and strategic interests.”

Legal Futures also explored our approach in an article highlighting how our Pledge sets out clear, values‑led criteria about the clients and sectors we will not serve.

Our Pledge also reflects Bellevue Law’s broader commitment to social impact. This includes:

As Florence explained:

“Our Sustainable and Responsible Legal Advice Pledge is about being transparent and intentional about the work we do, the clients we act for, and the role we believe responsible legal advisers should play in tackling climate and social challenges.”

We are pleased to see this approach recognised by both the Legal Diary and Legal Futures, and we look forward to continuing to support organisations that share our commitment to positive impact.
