Rachel O’Connell

Rachel is a solicitor with over 28 years’ experience in employment law and is recognised as a leading expert in advising both employers and senior executives on complex and often highly sensitive matters.

Her expertise covers the full spectrum of employment law. She has an excellent track record in the Employment Tribunal, bringing and defending claims involving discrimination, whistleblowing and equal pay.

Rachel has acted for and advised many senior executives including C-suite leaders and equity partners, on potential claims in the Employment Tribunal and High Court. She has also represented numerous women in serious sexual harassment cases, securing significant settlements, including several in excess of £1 million.

Her litigation practice focuses on complex and high‑value discrimination and whistleblowing claims. Recent work includes:

  • Acting for a senior executive at a pharmaceutical company in a complex whistleblowing claim, achieving a high six‑figure settlement immediately prior to the Tribunal hearing.
  • Representing a city trader in a complicated unfair and wrongful dismissal claim against a global financial institution. The Tribunal found that he had been both unfairly and wrongfully dismissed and that he was innocent of any wrongdoing, an outcome of particular importance given his FCA‑regulated status. He sought reinstatement/re-engagement.
  • Acting for a senior female executive in a nationwide organisation in an equal pay, discrimination and unfair dismissal claim, which settled for a six‑figure sum before proceedings were issued.

Rachel also advises employers on a wide range of pre‑litigation, employment, and misconduct matters. She has extensive experience conducting independent workplace investigations. Recent investigations include:

  • Investigating allegations of sexual harassment against a senior manager in a global organisation, including multiple staff interviews, findings and recommendations.
  • Investigating allegations of improper conduct by a director of a global security business, including falsification of specification documents with potentially life‑threatening consequences. This matter required understanding legal frameworks in jurisdictions including Africa and South‑East Asia.

Rachel has worked at a major City firm and at a boutique employment law practice, most recently as a Partner at Farore Law.

Clients frequently remark on Rachel’s ability to listen and empathise while providing expert, realistic and practical advice. She handles every case with sensitivity and is committed to helping clients achieve the best possible outcome.
