Sara Mason is a Senior Consultant within our Workplace Law team.
Sara is a highly experienced healthcare regulatory lawyer with more than 30 years’ experience advising and representing doctors, nurses, dentists and other healthcare professionals. Called to the Bar in 1992 and admitted as a solicitor in 1997, she brings a wealth of expertise in professional regulation, healthcare law and medico-legal matters. Sara holds a Master’s degree with Distinction in Medical Law and Ethics from King’s College London, where she was awarded the prestigious Sir Eric Scowen Prize for academic excellence.
Sara specialises in defending healthcare professionals in complex regulatory investigations and proceedings, including matters before the General Medical Council (GMC), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and General Dental Council (GDC). Her experience encompasses fitness to practise investigations and hearings, Interim Orders Tribunal proceedings, appeals and judicial review claims in the High Court. She also advises on MHPS investigations, NHS England Performer List matters and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) proceedings.
In addition to her regulatory practice, Sara regularly represents healthcare professionals in inquests, supporting them through all stages of coronial proceedings, from evidence review and witness preparation to advocacy at hearings. She has also advised and represented clinicians facing criminal investigations and prosecutions, often where professional regulatory and reputational issues arise alongside criminal allegations.
Before joining Bellevue Law, Sara practised as a Consultant Solicitor and previously spent more than two decades with MDU Services Limited, following earlier experience at Hempsons Solicitors. Throughout her career, she has developed a reputation for providing pragmatic, strategic and compassionate advice, helping clients navigate some of the most challenging periods of their professional lives.
Sara has also contributed to the wider healthcare and regulatory law community through roles including Trustee and Secretary of the UK Clinical Ethics Network and Committee Member of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers. Her appointment further strengthens Bellevue Law’s regulatory and professional discipline offering, providing clients with access to exceptional expertise across healthcare regulation, investigations and professional conduct matters.
